Toys R Us Building to be Re-Developed

The former Toys R Us at Wayne Rd and Warren Rd will soon become a Volunteers of America (VOA) Thrift Store. VOA has been serving the Michigan area since 1896 and their stores help to provide community services to veterans, low-income elderly housing and other supports services to make sure families do not end up in homelessness. “They are an outstanding organization” stated Councilman Hart about the organization which is considered Michigan’s largest private provider of services to veterans. The store will employ approximately 30 people and has a goal to open by Labor Day.

The building will see a number of updates throughout the remodeling process and will also be adding a donation drop-off center on the side of the building. The new owners are planning a joint project with the Westland Crossing Shopping Center to re-pave the parking lot which has been in disrepair for quite awhile.

In addition to the Toys R Us re-development, Planet Fitness is also getting upgrades and remodeling and will be closed until July 10th.
