January 22, Early Afternoon Bank Robberies

A suspect fled on foot and was apprehended following a robbery that took place at the Community Financial Credit Union at Wayne Rd & Warren in Westland at 12:25pm. Garden City Police located the suspect in the neighborhood near Warren Rd and Hubbard, just a few blocks east of Venoy Rd. There are unconfirmed reports that police are continuing to search for the getaway driver. While police were searching for the suspect that fled on foot, reports were made about another bank robbery that took place on Merriman Rd in Garden City at 1:47pm. Several residents witnessed the suspects capture in Garden City and photos were shared on social media. The investigation is ongoing.

January 21, Drive-By Shooters Flee Redford, Stopped in Westland

Police were called to a drive by shooting on Beech Daly Rd in Redford. Shots were fired into an occupied home. 10:43pm, police in pursuit of of a suburban with 4 occupants who are considered suspects in the drive by shooting. The chase is moving westbound at the intersection of Ford Rd and Inkster in Dearborn Hts. 10:52pm major police scene reported at Venoy & Glenwood in Westland along the side of the road, several police vehicles on scene. It appears the suspects have been stopped and arrested.

January 13, Arrest Made in Identity Theft Investigation

Waker Allen-Cannon of Westland

Police have arrested a 29 year old Westland resident on an 8 count Felony Warrant stemming from a recent fraud investigation. It is alleged that on December 17th 2019 Waker Allen-Cannon utilized a stolen identity to obtain $6,135.00 worth of merchandise from Pro-Cam located at 34224 Plymouth Road. Pro-Cam is a local store that sells photo and video gear serving every level of photographer from novice to professional. Investigators were able to identify Allen-Cannon after reviewing the Pro Cam state of the art security video. He was arrested by the Livonia Police Department Special Operations Unit and was arraigned on January 23, 2020 in the 3rd Circuit Court.

January 8th, Serial Armed Robber Arrested in Westland

A dangerous criminal is now off the streets and behind bars after police executed a search warrant this morning at an apartment on Wayne Rd in Westland. Police describe the suspect as a 26-year-old man who was previously convicted of armed robbery. In 2013, the suspect was sentenced to 30 years in prison for armed robberies that took place at Family Dollar Stores in Taylor and Detroit. He was paroled in August of 2019 and is now accused of seven recent armed robberies in metro Detroit. Investigators believe he is responsible for robberies at Family Dollar Stores in Warren, Detroit and Pontiac as well as robberies of Check’n Go Payday Loan locations in Warren, St. Claire Shores and Sterling Heights. The investigation and the raid were conducted by the City of Warren Police Department and they continue to search for a second suspect.
