Two Westland Men Survive Crash Into Detroit River

The driver of a Mazda that crashed into the Detroit River late Friday night has been identified as a 29 year old Westland resident. The driver was rescued by a heroic Grosse Isle Police Officer who was first on the scene and pulled him to shore just before he lost consciousness. Police say the passenger of the vehicle was able to escape and climb out of the water to call for help. He has been identified as a 27 year old Westland resident. Both men were reported to have been transported to the Hospital in Wyandotte and are expected to recover.

Reports say the driver misjudged a sharp turn on East River Rd near the Grosse Isle Yacht Club before crashing into the water. The responding Officer who saved the drivers life has not yet been identified.
